Grappling

This class focuses primarily on specific techniques and conditioning. We also go over the fundamental moves that you need in order to build up any sort of ground game. There are BASIC TOOLS of grappling that you MUST have in order to attain any sort of real understanding of the art. Just like you can't build much out of wood without a hammer, saw, or screwdriver; you won't build much out of grappling until you acquire basic tools.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

Equipment:

  • 1.long pans/GI* and T-shirt (We recommend compression shorts and rash-guard)
  • 2. Female students must wear a sports bra, in addition to a t-shirt. NO UNDERWIRES PLEASE.
  • 3. Athletic cup (Highly Recommended).
  • 4. Mouth guard (Required - may be purchased at Open Door).
  • 5. Shin Guards (Highly Recommended)

For all of you UFC fans out there who've thought to yourselves, "I wanna do that!" This is the class for you. This is a no-gi class and focuses more on self-defense and street fighting techniques than Jiu Jitsu. How to deal with multiple opponents and weapons is also addressed.

ATTENTION: While this is a very practical class, from the perspective of self-defense, in order to become truly GOOD at fighting (i.e. UFC-style fighting) we highly recommend that you take a gi-based class in addition to this one.
